DIY Roofing is Dangerous, And Here is Why

If you needed heart surgery – you wouldn’t try to perform it on yourself. If you needed a lawyer – you probably wouldn’t represent yourself. Most people leave those big jobs up to the specialized experts who have the skills, education, and experience to do the job right. But many homeowners fail to utilize this same common-sense approach to home repairs. This is especially risky when it comes to major home projects such as roofing.

Roofing is physically dangerous.

Did you know that roofing is one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in America? It should not be left up to the novices. Roofing professionals have gone through extensive safety training to ensure that they won’t fall.

This physical danger can also result in financial danger. If you are injured while attempting to repair your own roof, you may miss work and therefore, lose money. You could even end up disabled, either temporarily or permanently. That would take a much larger toll on your finances than hiring a professional roofer in the first place.

Roofing is financially dangerous.

It may seem like a money-saver to try to repair your roof on your own. However, going the DIY route could end up costing much more in the long-run, even if you do not get injured. Faulty installation or repairs can result in extensive damage to your home or belongings. Additionally, performing repairs on your own will likely void any warranty you have on your roof. If the repair isn’t done correctly the first time, you may end up having to hire a professional in the first place.

A professional team is insured so that if a mistake happens, it is covered. You also don’t run any risk of being harmed during the repair process.

Roofing is aesthetically dangerous.

Roofing may look easy – but it is not a natural talent. It takes a lot of professional training to make the roof look great. If you are not 100% sure what you are doing, it is easy to end up with a Frankenstein-looking roof, filled with mis-matched and misaligned shingles.

To reduce all of these risks, it is best to leave roofing up to the professionals. Hiring a professional may not seem like the most financially-savvy option at first glance, but it can save you a significant amount of time, headaches, and risk in the long-run.
