Originally founded in March of 1866 from segments of Pequannock and Hanover Townships, Boonton grew out of the construction of the Morris Canal circa 1829. Home to the Jersey City Reservoir, the first municipal water supply to be chlorinated in the United States. Originally named after Colonial Governor, Thomas Boone, today Boonton is home to 8,347 people, living in 3,235 households, comprised of 2,112 families.
